More Information for the Iowa March

Welcome Walkers!
We are so pleased you will be joining us for the March to ReEnergize Iowa. This is a four day walk from Ames to Des Moines which to call for a clean energy economy for real global warming solutions. If you have not already signed up, please do so. We need an accurate estimate so we can prepare appropriately!

We have attempted to include the information you need for this walk. There is information on: gear, food/water, health/safety, housing, transportation, walking formation, and the schedule of events.

How you can find us: we understand you may be joining us for the whole march, one day, or just an event. Below you will find the address of where we will hold registration each morning, and the location of our big events each day. We'll have a support bus and a few other vehicles along with us during the march to transport gear, tired marchers, and to shuttle day-marchers back to their cars at the end of the day. Parking is available at our morning and evening stops. Overnight parking is available at Reiman Gardens for anyone joining us more than one night. You will simply need to place one of our flyers (available on arrival) on your dashboard and ISU Campus Security will watch to see the cars are safe.

FOOD:
We ask walkers to be as self-sufficient as possible. For day-long and multiple-day walkers, we will provide lunches. We will have a mid way station every day where you can refill your water and grab a meal. For walkers joining us for multiple days, breakfast and snacks will be provided at the beginning of each day, along with dinner after the evening program. Walking all day makes you hungry – bring good amounts of food! And bring some to share if you can!

WATER:
Please bring a water bottle. There will be mid-day stops to replenish water. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: drink lots of water!

CLOTHING:
WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES! (blisters are never fun). Be prepared for rain or shine. Bring rain clothes and also sun hats and sunglasses. Make sure you take precautions against the heat and sun - bring light clothes to cover skin if necessary, and don't forget the sunscreen! You may also want to bring an umbrella or parasol to keep the sun off you.

LODGING:
Each night we will be hosted on private property. In good weather we will set up tents outside each night and use designated bathrooms or portable toilets. In the case of foul weather we do have indoor options, however be prepared to use a tent in any weather. Please be considerate of our host's property and make sure others are as well. If you want to walk the whole way, but choose to make other sleeping arrangements, we ask that you let us know at registration that morning.

TRANSPORTATION:
We will provide shuttles each evening to take you back to the starting point for the day. We ask that you try to carpool to the morning kickoffs, to reduce unnecessary mileage. On August 5th we will have shuttles taking walkers back to Saydel High School and to Birdland Park. The buses will will also shuttle multiple-day walkers to and from the lodging sites each evening and morning. Please be prompt and alert for when it is time to move to the next location.
